History
The sickroom was not one individual space in the nineteenth century but rather the various rooms converted to look after ill people, which appeared in homes, hospitals, and civic spaces (such as workhouses). It was common for the sick to be cared for in their homes in this period. Doctors and surgeons would often travel to ill patients. Friends, family, loved ones, and other acquaintances were often roped in to help with nursing duties.
